Scores injured as masquerade followers and Islamic faithful clash in Oyo

Convert Clear About 25 people were allegedly injured when followers of the traditional Egungun religion and Islamic faithful clashed in Kishi town, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State on Wednesday, The Punch reports.


It is  not clear if the clash has anything to do with the celebration of the 20th coronation anniversary of the traditional ruler of the town, the Iba of Kishi, Oba Moshood Arowoduye, as the clash came at a time when he was celebrating.




Commissioner of Police in the state, Abiodun Odude, said he was aware of the clash and that he had sent policemen from Ogbomoso division to ensure they restore peace to the area.

“I am aware of the clash between Egungun worshippers and Islamic religion followers in Kishi. Let me also confirm that no life was lost and no record of injury. The clash happened because of a misunderstanding. We are investigating cause of the clash but as we speak, normalcy has returned to the town.”
