11 New Books Worth Reading in May

Convert Clear

You know what I love about the Spring and Summer seasons? It's suddenly socially appropriate to break out the chick lit (a term I use endearingly). Fall and Winter are for heavy books; when I head to the admittedly shady part of the beach, I like to bring a fun, easy novel with me. Maybe I got it at the airport. Who knows? This May, plenty of new books are being released, and amongst the recipe compilations and self-help guides, there are a handful of truly interesting reads. Here are my picks for the month ahead!

Always and Forever, Lara Jean

You don't have to be in the typical YA demographic to pick up a copy of Jenny Han's Always and Forever, Lara Jean. The follow-up to To All the Boys I've Loved Before and P.S. I Still Love You follows Laura Jean as she has to make a decision about college. Out May 2

Into the Water

If you were one of the many, many people captivated by The Girl on the Train, you'll need to check out Paula Hawkins's follow-up: Into the Water. The new thriller revolves around a 15-year-old girl whose mother has been brutally slain and found at the bottom of a river. Probably not the most uplifting read. Out May 2

Rich People Problems

Before Kevin Kwan's Rich People Problems is the third book, after China Rich Girlfriend, and it seems to be filled with as much drama (and designer apparel) as the previous installments. Out May 23

Gwendy's Button Box

I'm honestly terrorized by the mere cover of Gwendy's Button Box, a collaboration between Stephen King and Richard Chizmar. Gwendy's horror story takes place in Castle Rock, one of the towns in King's freaky, fictional version of Maine. Out May 30

Same Beach, Next Year

Dorothea Benton Frank, author of All Summer Long, The Last Original Wife, and All the Single Ladies, has created yet another ideal beach read. Same Beach, Next Year introduces two beautiful couples who begin a lifelong friendship in Summer. Out May 16

Ready to dive into a new trilogy? The Broken Road is the first of three books by Richard Paul Evans about a man who gets a second chance to do the right thing. Out May 2

The Girl Who Knew Too Much

Transport yourself to 1930s California with Amanda Quick's new novel, The Girl Who Knew Too Much. A girl turns up dead I n a pool at a hot (but secret) hotel to the stars — whodunit? Out May 9

A New Model

Is Ashley Graham's Instagram account your first stop when you need inspiration? The superstar has come out with A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, & Power Really Look Like that will inject you with a heaping dose of self-love. Out May 9

Secrets in Summer

Nancy Thayer (author of The Guest Cottage, The Island House, and plenty of other vacation reads) has a new title to add to your shelf: Secrets in Summer. This one features a beautiful, 30-something protagonist, a gorgeous Nantucket setting, and a romance with a local carpenter. How could you resist? Out May 30

Since We Fell

Dennis Lehane, author of Mystic River and Shutter Island, brings us Since We Fell, the tale of an ex-journalist who stumbles into a dangerous mystery. Out May 9
