A few hours to the Edo State governorship election, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, and his Peoples Democratic Party’s counterpart, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, have embarked on last-minute social media campaigns.
Political campaigns are expected to end 24 hours to the election but the opposite is the case as both candidates have taken to the social media to woo voters and reel out pieces of advice.
Aside from soliciting votes from Edo residents, both major candidates have called for peace, law and order during and after the poll.
Obaseki, through his official Twitter handle, said, “Vote peacefully, vote progress and continuity.”
The APC governorship candidate also generously made retweeted the comments by his supporters.
He also retweeted the #votenotfight hashtag circulating on the social media.
An APC supporter, Suanu Prince, wrote, “As Obaseki is busy campaigning even now, Pastor Ize-Iyamu is relying on Igbinedion and Governor Nyesom Wike…”
Ize-Iyamu was not left out of the last-minute social media campaign.
He wrote, “I want to appeal to the people of Edo to trust me and come out on September 28 to vote en masse for the PDP.I will not let you down. We intend to make Edo very viable in business.”
Ize-Iyamu also retweeted a comment by a PDP supporter, Tanee Romeo, who wrote, “You can’t fool the people of Edo State with ‘akara’ (bean cake). They are wiser now. Pastor Ize-Iyamu for Edo people.”
